Our efforts have garnered international acclaim, driving significant progress in social protection, inclusive education and disability rights. Below are some of our achievements and ongoing initatives:
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) (2015)
Adopted by the UN General Assembly in September 2015, ADA played a critical role in ensuring that disability was included in the global development agenda.
Inclusive Post-2015 Development Framework Advocacy (2015)
Funded by international development partners, ADA advocated for an inclusive development framework beyond 2015, ensuring that disability remains a priority.
ADP (2018)
Protocol to the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in Africa (ADP). ADA's advocacy efforts contributed to the adoption of this protocol on 29 January 2018, which has strengthened the legal framework for protecting the rights of persons with disabilities in Africa
Model Disability Law (MDL) (2019)
With support from the Pan Africa Parliament (PAP), ADA influenced the adoption of the MDL on 19 October 2019, which serves as a model for national disability laws across the continent
African Network for Evidence-to-Action on Disability (AfriNEAD) (Ongoing)
ADA plays a key role in leading African research consortia, such as AfriNEAD, to generate evidence-based solutions for disability inclusion.
Global Partnership on Children with Disabilities (GPcwd) (Ongoing)
ADA contributes to the GPcwd, promoting the rights and inclusion of children with disabilities in global development agendas.
Influencing the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) (Ongoing)
ADA has advocated for the inclusion of disability considerations in WIPO's policies and programs, promoting accessibility and intellectual property rights for persons with disabilities.
African Union and Regional Economic Commissions (RECs) (Ongoing)
Collaborating with the AU and its organs, including RECs, ADA has provided technical support and advocacy to promote disability inclusion at various levels.
Disability Inclusive Peace and Security (DIPS) (Ongoing)
ADA has been instrumental in promoting disability-inclusive peace and security policies, ensuring that persons with disabilities are considered in peacebuilding processes.
Inclusive Education at the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) (Ongoing)
ADA has provided leadership in promoting inclusive education policies within SADC, ensuring that persons with disabilities have access to quality education
Inter-Sectoral Disability Mainstreaming Strategies (Ongoing)
ADA has developed and implemented inter-sectoral strategies to mainstream disability across various sectors, ensuring a holistic approach to disability inclusion.
